U-Pick Info

Picking fruit and vegetables for and with your family is a rewarding and educational experience. The benefits of organic food are significant not only for the consumer but also for the environment. We are glad that you share in our love of a healthier life style and planet. The following is an introduction to blueberry picking and the precautions we take to keep our fields and fruit healthy. We hope you enjoy your experience.

We have young plants so we ask for your cooperation in protecting their health while you are in the fields.

Our blueberries are grown organically. This makes it important that we humans do not bring potential diseases into the field. Our farm is a non-smoking area and we do not allow pets in the fields.

Please use our clean up station to wash your hands and clean the soles of your shoes before entering the fields.

There are clean picking flats available for your use and for carrying your berries home. There is no extra charge for using our cardboard flats.

Blueberry roots grow close to the surface and are more susceptible to injury from activities “on top of the ground” than many other types of plants so please protect the planting hills while picking by not “walking over” the planting rows and keeping the mulch in place as much as possible.

Blueberries do not ripen uniformly within the cluster. For best picking results use both hands and roll (do not squeeze) ripe fruit from the cluster into the palm of the opposite hand. This prevents fruit bruising and damage to the tender fruiting shoots of the plant and leaves the rest of the fruit in the cluster to finish ripening.

Thank you, on behalf of our farm plants, fields and staff for helping to make this a clean cooperative and fun experience.

You may want to review the description of the three varieties available in the u-pick area so you are sure to pick exactly what you are looking for!!! These are described in the “About our Farm” page and on the “Products” page. Most important – have fun and enjoy your time here. If we can be of any assistance at all, please ask.

Please remember that our direct sale prices are below general market rate for organic fruit whether you pick your own or buy fruit we have handpicked for you. There is not a substantial reduction in cost for u pick fruit since the cost of maintaining u pick fields is higher and off sets the costs of professionally picking and packaging fruit.
